Oman Lawyer Offers Lionel Messi $1 million For Bisht He Wore While Lifting The World Cup
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner helped Argentina to a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over France on Sunday evening after a 3-3 draw in the game.
It’s the first time Messi has won the World Cup, solidifying his status as one of the greatest footballers of his generation.
Host nation Qatar commemorated the occasion by dressing Messi in a black and gold robe.
The bisht symbolises wealth and royalty in Arab nations, with Qatar wanting to add an extra flourish to the trophy lift as the first Muslim nation to host a World Cup.
An Omari lawyer doesn’t want Messi to keep the robe, however. Ahmed Al Barwani, who is also a member of parliament in Oman, has offered the 35-year-old a huge cash sum to ensure it stays in the Middle East.

He posted to Twitter: “From the Sultanate of Oman I congratulate you for winning the World Cup Qatar 2022…
“The Arabic bisht, a symbol of chivalry and wisdom. I’m offering you a million dollars (£829,000) in return for that bisht.”
Al Barwani outlined his intentions with the robe during an interview with The National.
He said: “I was at the stadium watching that moment live when the Emir of Qatar gave Messi the bisht.
“This moment told the world that we are here, and this is our culture, please know it well.
“It will be displayed to commemorate that moment of pride, and to help us relive it, and to also remind us that we can (do anything).”
Messi wearing the bisht received criticism as it covered his Argentina jersey. Former Argentina defender Pablo Zabaleta covered the game for BBC Sport and could not hide his frustration.
He remarked: “Just why? There’s no reason to do that.” Qatari officials defended the decision, stressing it was a ‘regional celebration’ rather than one for Qatar.

Antony was not happy with Fernandes
Manchester United duo Antony and Bruno Fernandes were seen clashing with each other in the first half of United’s draw against Crystal Palace.
Fernandes looked to have secured United the three points with a goal on the stroke of half time only for Michael Olise’s stunning free kick in second half stoppage time ensured a share of the spoils.

It seemed as if tempers began to flare amongst the United ranks on the half hour mark as Antony and Fernandes were caught exchanging verbals with each other, leading to many speculating on social media.

Colombian popstar Shakira shared a candid message with her fans on Instagram as she welcomed in the new year, taking a thinly-veiled swipe at her former partner by referencing “betrayal” and “heartache”.
“Even if our wounds are still open in this new year, time has a surgeon’s hands,” the Hips Don’t Lie singer wrote. “Even if someone’s betrayed us, we must continue to trust others.”
In response, Antonela sent Shakira three heart emojis in the comments section, in the latest suggestion that she and her husband are taking the singer-songwriter’s side in the ugly saga.
Shortly after their split, it emerged that Pique was dating 23-year-old Barcelona-born Clara Chia.

The couple are said to have split over a row regarding her 2023 calendar which reportedly led to a furious row between the pair.

The split came after countless displays of public affection between the loved up couple – as well as him defending her for a comment made by a TV presenter.
