Terrifying Moment That a 3-Year-Old Got Stuck In A Washing Machine: Mother Shares Warning

Published

on

Installing a washing machine is an exciting time especially when you have a toddler running around the house. But, just days after getting their new washer installed, a Colorado family had to deal with the worst kind of emergency. Their toddler was trapped in a front loader washer as it started its cycle. Lindsey Mclver felt there was no other choice, but to share this terrifying moment.

She says that she woke up to her 4-year-old son “crying so hard he could barely talk.” She didn’t seem to understand right away, but luckily her husband Alan was able to figure it out. Three-year-old Kloe was stuck in their appliance while it was still running. Once they understood this, they ran to the basement to get to the laundry room to see their little girl inside the drum of the machine.

Alan told Good Morning America “I could tell she was screaming, but the machine’s airtight, I yanked on the door. I pulled so hard that I moved the machine from the wall, but it’s locked. You can’t get it opened.”

One Mistake Could Have Cost The World

For anyone, of course, this would be a highly stressful and terrifying moment and your reaction time can be jumbled. However, these parents managed to stop the cycle and get Kloe out swiftly. Luckily, this poor little girl managed to escape this disaster with just a few bumps and bruises.

Lindsey says “After going through all the ‘what if’s and ‘could have’s we know we are very blessed.” in a post that went viral. Of course, Lindsey was worried about the shame she would receive posting about this terrifying moment. But, she wanted to make sure other parents didn’t have to go through this too and needed to share the potential dangers to the world.

The day before this accident happen, Lindsey and Alan purchased and installed their new machine. They didn’t have the chance to check any hazardous settings on the washer. They did, however, warn their children to not go near the machine or touch it. It was also one of those moments where you would never imagine two toddlers being able to figure out how to turn it on in less than a day. Linsdey tells GoodHousekeeping.com that “We believe that my 3-year-old daughter climbed inside and that my 4-year-old son closed the door and pushed start.”

Her post goes on to explain that it’s almost a daily occurrence where children try to find new ways to injure themselves and it’s not anything new, which I completely agree with! Her warning about the dangers of washing machines was shared more than 350,000 times. She says “I was not expecting to go viral,” “It’s been overwhelming. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around it all.”

This Terrifying Moment Could Happen To Anyone
For anyone that owns a front-loading washing machine, heed this warning. This has not been the only moment where something like this has happened. In 2009, a 4-year-old girl in Southern California passed away after climbing into the drum of the washer. It’s said that when she climbed in, her younger brother proceeded to turn the machine on, AP reports.

But, don’t stop there because it’s not only an unsafe place for toddlers but your furry friends too. My siamese ball of fur likes to climb in the dryer to nap A LOT. It may not be a washer, but I have to check it all the time before doing laundry. Carolyn Forte the Director of the Good Housekeeping Institute Home Appliances & Cleaning Products Lab advises to never leave your children unsupervised in the laundry room. Make sure to set up the child-proofing immediately when you get your machines. “It’s designed to disable the controls so the machine can’t be started and some even lock the door,” she explains.

Best Way To Keep Your Child Safe?

Now knowing the horrors that can occur, Lindsey installed a physical child safety lock on the outside of the wall because her LG model doesn’t lock the door.

LG told ABC News in a statement that “We applaud Ms. McIver for telling her story and share in her efforts to make sure that consumers are aware of the child safety lock feature,” “We encourage people to use this important safety setting and to contact our customer support team if they need any assistance. LG customer support can be reached at 1 (800) 243-0000.”

Acknowledging Ones Mistake

Of course, there are ways this terrifying moment could have been avoided, but Lindsey acknowledged this in her post. But, you can take comfort in knowing that this is not a mistake that is not a rarity. Many parents in her comments have confirmed that she was not alone in this. “This is a wake-up call for many of us,” one parent wrote.

The mom of three acknowledged in her post that they could have avoided this accident, but thousands of commenters reaffirmed that she wasn’t the only one to make this mistake.

These are just two of the many comments that were left under her post:

“This is a wake-up call for many of us,”

“Thank you for sharing this,” another person added. “You most likely saved another child by doing so.”

At 56, Cindy Crawford has finally accepted her age and wants everyone to stop calling her ageless

Cindy Crawford is the epitome of a supermodel. But, unfortunately, people tend to hold models to unrealistic beauty standards, especially as they get older. Crawford personally rejects any age expectations people might have for her and has some words of wisdom to share with everyone who’s afraid of aging.

Crawford defined the ’90s supermodel era.

When we think about ’90s supermodels, one of the first names that come to mind is undoubtedly Cindy Crawford. Her rise to fame started in 1990 when she appeared on the cover of British Vogue alongside names like Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington. Since then, Crawford frequently walked and posed for the biggest fashion houses and magazines of the decade.

In 2000, exactly 10 years since her career had skyrocketed, Crawford quit full-time modeling at the age of 34. Since then, the former supermodel has written a book, Becoming, worked as a spokesperson for several brands, and even launched her furniture line. Still, even though she hung up her modeling hat over 2 decades ago, Crawford is still battling with unrealistic expectations people have of others.

Getting older was tough to accept for her at first.

By the time Crawford started approaching her fifties, she’d started noticing her age in little things: “Your skin, your hair, your body. I take care of myself but I know that I’m a 51-year-old woman.”

And yet, Cindy realized that her concerns were more based on other people’s expectations of her. “I want to do my job well, and I want to deliver but I also know that what I have to offer now is different from what I had to offer at 25.”

The former supermodel also had a hard time with people online reacting to her changing appearance, saying, “I don’t need everyone on Instagram pointing out that I don’t look the same way I did when I was 20. I know that.” But after the struggle came acceptance, which we can all learn from.

Crawford has embraced her age and refuses to look back.

After some time, Crawford accepted that you can’t turn back time and it’s much more important to focus on the now. As she shared, “No matter what I do, I’m not going to look 20, or 30. I just want to look great for 50. There’s pressure on women to do the undoable, which is not age. But it’s about looking great for however old you are, regardless of what that number is.”

At this time, she also rejects the idea of being ageless and wants everyone to stop pushing that narrative. Crawford said, “Being told I’m ageless isn’t right, especially because getting older is hard enough, never mind that we live in a youth-obsessed culture.”

Ultimately, Crawford’s age became her sense of pride as it reflects all her achievements. “I’m not 25, so why should I be trying to look 25? Why do I want someone to mistake me for a 25-year-old? I’ve had children. I have all this life experience.”

A Denton couple is celebrating their new twin girls who were born in different years!

Kali Jo Scott had to be checked in early to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton for monitoring.

Then came Effie Rose at 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 1, making her the first baby born at the hospital in 2023!

The babies are happy and healthy, weighing in at 5.5 pounds.

“We had kind of joked, like, ‘wouldn’t it be funny if…’ with the holiday and New Year’s Eve over the weekend,” said Scott. “It turned out that was more of a possibility than we realized.”

Both parents say they like the fact that each child gets their own day.

“I love it. I think it is hilarious and just super fun,” Scott said.

“It kind of happened so quick we haven’t processed all of it yet,” said father Cliff Scott.

They say it will help keep the fraternal twins with their own identity.

“You always still want to make sure they have their own individual personality and know that they are special and unique. So this gets to add to that special and uniqueness that some twins don’t maybe get,” she said. “One will always get the glitter and confetti of New Year’s Eve and one gets to kick it off with a brand-new year on New Year’s Day.”

The few-minute difference could have big implications for a few things.

Many youth sports are based around the child’s birth year, which could make for complicated schedules.

The new family says some of the financially-minded friends have reached out about the tax implications.

“Our friends were making fun of us for the tax deduction issue since we only get one tax deduction for last year, but I think that’s just fine,” Scott said.
