Hollywood couple Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis decided to disinherit their children from their fortune. The pair are from humble beginnings and want to instill values in their offspring.
Actor Ashton Kutcher and actress Mila Kunis met on the comedy series “That ‘70s Show.” The co-stars appeared as Michaels Kelso and Jackie Burkhart from 1998 to 2006.
They were not romantically involved at the time because Kunis was only 14 in real life and Kutcher was 19, but she later admitted that she had a crush on him. It was not until 2012 that the twosome started dating and later got engaged in February 2014.
THE SECRET WHIMSICAL WEDDING
The love birds secretly walked down the aisle in July 2015 and had a garden wedding party for their nuptials over the Fourth of July weekend. Like their engagement, they kept details of their wedding plans private.
An insider told People at the time that the pair had already legally married and that their wedding party served as a low-key gathering to celebrate with close friends and family:
“They’re so happy. They’re so in love.”
Surrounded by loved ones, Kunis, 39, and Kutcher, 44, celebrated their matrimonial ceremony at the Secret Garden at Parris Ranch in Oak Glen, California.
It is a secluded spot with acres of apple orchards, botanical gardens, and ponds. According to its website, the gated space had become available for exclusive weddings and private events at the time.
A source shared that the bride “wore a white dress with her hair all up.” It was reportedly a color theme suggested by the couple’s daughter, who wore a white dress as well.
A business insider close to the “Two and a Half Men” alum revealed the duo had talked about getting hitched for a while before they said their ‘I dos.’ Another friend of Kutcher shared: “They’re incredibly happy together.”
FIRST TIME PARENTS
The A-list partners started a family and welcomed their first child together, daughter Wyatt Isabelle in October 2014, and the first-time dad disclosed the newborn’s name on his website:
“Mila and I would like to welcome Wyatt Isabelle Kutcher to the world. May your life be filled with wonder, love, laughter, health, happiness, curiosity, and privacy.”
The model then posted images of several different babies and asked if people could guess which one is theirs while noting, “does it matter? All babies are cute.”
The new mom, on the other hand, had previously told Ellen DeGeneres that she was planning on an epidural-free birth: “The hospital that I’m going to be laboring in does a midwife, you know, doula type of thing, Mila explained, adding:
“I’m going to do it all as natural as I possibly can unless there’s an emergency or something that should go wrong. I did this to myself; I might as well do it right. I wanted this!”
WELCOMING ANOTHER ADDITION
After the birth of their firstborn, followed their second child, a son, in November 2016. Kutcher and Kunis announced the name of their baby boy on A Plus (a digital media platform that counts Kutcher as an investor).
Named Dimitri Portwood Kutcher, the infant was born weighing 8 pounds and 15 ounces per their announcement. Once again, as a means of keeping their lives private, they did not share photos of the new addition to the family:
“We’d like to allow our kids to make their own choices on whether to have a life in the public eye or not.”
INSTILLING IMPORTANT VALUES
From an early age, the “Friends with Benefits” star and Kutcher instilled the importance of being humble in their children, especially when it comes to money, even though they live a privileged life.
The concerned father said that he would be taking them on camping trips often because he wants them to be resourceful and teach them to be that way.
NO CHRISTMAS PRESENTS
In October 2017, his wife talked about not giving their kids Christmas presents. While the mom of two grew up in communist Russia and has a Jewish background, she fully participates in American Christmas traditions such as decorating the tree.
However, Kunis said their tradition is no presents for the young ones. The new rule was due to her previous experiences with her now 8-year-old daughter Wyatt.
When the children are younger than one, Kunis said that it does not matter and that when they celebrated Christmas when her baby girl was two, it was overbearing.
She explained the kids no longer appreciate the one gift, and instead, she and her husband prefer giving presents to charity which is their new tradition.
‘KIDS, YOU ARE POOR’
The doting parents have even taken it as far as planning to tell their brood that they are poor to humble them. That is because the couple is also from low-income families.
During an appearance on Australia’s “Kyle and Jackie O Show,” Kunis revealed she and Kutcher came from poverty backgrounds and that it played a significant role in how she values and appreciates money.
The former child star noted she and her beloved spouse are self-made and are well aware of what a dollar is worth, adding they worked hard because nothing was handed to them on a silver platter. She jokingly detailed on the radio show:
“It’s a matter of teaching them from a very early age that, you know, mommy and daddy may have a dollar, but you’re poor. You are very poor. You have nothing. Mommy and daddy have a bank account.”
NO MONEY FROM MOM & DAD
In an episode of Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, Kutcher revealed that he and his spouse would not be leaving any money for their children:
“We’re not setting up a trust fund for them. We’ll end up giving our money away to charity.”
However, the entrepreneur said if his children want to start a business someday and have a good business plan, he would be happy to invest in their future. “As long as they know what to do, when they don’t have things, they know how to be resourceful,” the father of two said.
KUNIS & KUTCHER’S SHOCKING CONFESSION
Besides teaching their children to be independent, Kunis and Kutcher have a peculiar way of parenting their son and daughter.
They once made headlines after admitting they don’t bathe Wyatt and her baby brother Dimitri, 5, every day. Kunis confessed during her appearance on the “Armchair Expert” podcast, saying: “I wasn’t that parent that bathed my newborns. Ever.”
Her spouse chimed in and admitted they only wash their offspring if they have visible dirt on them. “Here’s the thing. If you can see the dirt on them, clean them. Otherwise, there’s no point,” he added.
HANDS-ON DAD
Kunis once gushed over the father of her kids, who she called “brilliant” and an “incredibly hands-on” parent, sharing he helped change every diaper:
“My husband is an incredibly hands-on dad. When my child was born, I was breast-feeding, and he said, ‘That’s your connection, I want to change every diaper.’”
The pair are also protective parents and are always alert about how their fame affects their family’s privacy. Kunis shared the invasion of privacy got to a point where she could not even leave the house and that even though she loves her career, her privacy is gone.
The starlet explained that she was not complaining about it but did not like the idea that her child could not go to the park with her. And that if she dares, then she would have to trail paparazzi along with them.
